Instructional Design for
Trainers and Educators

This course is designed for people with experience in the learning industry already, but haven’t had a practical course in training product creation. It is designed for trainers, educators, transitioning teachers, and instructional designers who want to enhance their course development abilities

This is an intensive experience which provides the science, processes, and systems behind Instructional Systems Design that is missing in most train-the-trainer courses. You will be actively building a course as you apply theory and processes to develop training for your organization. This training is significantly more than creating an outline and slide deck.

You will learn and be able to:
– Perform analysis, including a task analysis
– Develop a Training Design Plan
– Create effective and measurable performance objectives
– Create instructor and participant guides and slide decks
– Create rubrics and scenario control documentation
– Develop defensible tests that have content validity
– Create evaluation tools that measure course efficacy

Max participants: 10 (some exceptions allowed)
Hours of training: 40 in one week (some home work)

Hybrid structure – some Instructor Led (synchronous), some self-guided (asynchronous)

Materials are asynchronous with fewer hours spent as a cohort online. We still have times to gather together for debriefs and discussions, and some activities, but the course is based on mutual availability instead of specific hours. Officer hours where anyone can pop in at anytime and one-on-one consultations are provided.

ILT

Day 1:
Introduction to Instructional Design, vicarious liability, training needs and resource analysis

We cover the theory and purpose of instructional design and take the first steps in developing a course.

Day 2: Course design and mapping

You will begin the process of designing your course of training by creating a Training Design and Measurement Plan.

Day 3:
Course materials development, with special attention on creating realistic scenarios and role play training

You will start building the outline, add content, build an Instructor Guide, and develop a scenario.

Day 4: Development (cont.) and quality assurance

Develop slide decks, participant guides, and discuss Quality Assurance and review processes.

Day 5: Deployment, testing and evaluation

Discuss what happens after you have completed development of your course and next steps.

Follow-up meeting

To complete this course, each participant is required to follow-up with the instructor within 90 days of training to discuss the process, answer any additional questions, and discuss the process.

VILT

Timing is different, but presentation is the same. Participants have 90 days to complete the course.

Everyone will receive templates and examples to aid in your course development. You will need a laptop or computer with Microsoft Office. Be prepared to discuss on the first day of class the training topic you want to develop that interests you or is needed in your organization.

Just like learning, our training support doesn’t end when everyone leaves on the final day. We provide continued support to our participants while they put into practice the skills and processes they learn in this course. This course was 30 years in the making – we don’t expect you to be ready in 40 hours.

Participants of Jacobs, et al, LLC, courses will receive continuing support for as long as they want/need it at no additional cost.* Participants are invited to set meetings with their instructor to discuss their training materials and programs after they receive their certificates of completion. Jacobs, et al, instructors remain permanent consultants as participants go through their career changing the standards of how law enforcement training is designed and developed.
